Twin Block Appliance
If you are undergoing treatment with a removable orthodontic appliance, here are some tips to help you experience the best results.
The Twin Block appliance
A Twin Block appliance is an orthodontic treatment option that consists of a set of upper and lower removable plates. The two blocks work together to guide the lower jaw forward and into the correct position. The Twin Block appliance can permanently improve your overall facial appearance in just a matter of a few months (providing that the appliance is worn at all times).
Removing your Twin Block
You may take your Twin Block appliance out for regular oral hygiene and participation in rough sports or swimming activities. While you can remove the appliance for eating, we recommend that you leave the blocks in place during meals. In fact, the biting and chewing while you eat can help assist the Twin Block appliance in moving your jaw.
Does Twin Block treatment hurt?
No, this treatment should not hurt. At first, the Twin Block appliance may feel awkward in your mouth, but within a few days it should be comfortable and easy to wear. For the first few days speech may be affected, but this will steadily improve and should return to normal within a few weeks. As with all new appliances, the teeth and jaws may be a little sore at first. This discomfort should be easily treated with over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
