Importance of retainers
Wearing retainers is one of the most important phases of your orthodontic treatment. When your braces are removed or your Invisalign treatment has finished, your teeth have a tendency to move into their original positions. To prevent this from occurring, retainers need to be worn as advised.
In most cases we bond small wires (lingual retainers) behind your upper front four teeth and behind your lower front six teeth. An upper clear retainer is also worn at night. All retainers are to be worn for at least three years.
Your retention fee is included in your braces/Invisalign treatment cost and includes the initial set of retainers and all follow up appointments for three years.
If any retainers (bonded wires or clear retainers) are broken or lost, an appointment should be made as soon as possible. Additional fees will apply to relapse or repair them. Not wearing your retainers even for a short period of time can cause movement and possibly additional orthodontic treatment.
